Pray for Ukraine

As many of you might have seen on TV that the country of Ukraine is in a very hard situation right now. The Civil war has started. The people who want freedom for their country are being shut and beaten. The government has closed all the hospitals and the ambulances are not responding to any calls in order to stop the protestors. Wounded people are left to die unless the volunteers pick them up and take them to churches that are used for hospitals with volunteer doctors and nurses. They are in need of water and medicine to dress their wounds. If you are willing to take a part and make a donation, stay tuned we are working on setting up an account to accept donations.

Our Fall 2012 Charity Event

This Fall His Hands Charity participated in Eagle Mountain City Halloween Village event. It was truly a blessing that the City was doing this event and all we had to do is show up. Well, it does sound easy, but I can't even list on here how many hours and how many people got involved in this amazing service project! From hours of planning, to hours of organizing, cooking and preparing, nothing went in vain.

A lot of times we as a Charity have a privileged to ask local businesses like grocery stores to donate goods for our event. We thought we definitely had our costs for the bake sale covered with  the local stores, but it was not so. Because His Hands Charity is helping families out of the country pretty much all of the local grocery stores denied is in assisting.  We did not expect that and had to scramble for donations from committee members themselves and from other people. I was grateful for organized and inspired members of our committee who helped us to pull it all together and we were able to receive in kind donations and monetary donations for pie baking. After that was done Heather ( our caterer ) with help of other committee members and other volunteers spent three days baking pies for our pie tasting. We had sign ups of people going to help her, but of course she had to be there the whole time. I wanted to Thanks Heather and other volunteers for not giving up, no matter the circumstances!

The day before the even and of the day of the event I relied on the help and support of the people on our committee members. Laurel got the decorating and setting up with Heather and Mandy taken care of. We had enough and more then enough people helping! The day of the event was AMAZING! It was so great seeing our work at works, so to speak!

So if you happen to make it to our booth at Halloween Village you probably remember an obnoxious loud woman with a cat costume and a wig yelling about this charity, it was me! I found use to my loud personality and I was using it!!!

Meet Shukovini family

His Hands Charity has a goal of helping less fortunate/sick children, individuals and elderly who are in need of medical or temporal assistance.

Here in America we are fortunate to have many organizations that help needy people. His Hands Charity wants to bring the relief to children and families in Ukraine.

This and next year we are focusing our efforts on helping two single parent families with children who have cystic fibrosis. These children are in need of a very expensive antibiotic treatment that they can't afford.

 

Meet Shukovini  family.

 

 

 Single Mom Victoria and her 17 year old son Ilya is one of the families that we are helping this year. Besides having Cystic Fibrosis in May 2011 Ilya had a planned surgery after which he had complications, what  resulted in another surgery. After the second surgery Ilya lost 35 lb. With his main diagnosis of Cystic Fibrosis loosing 35 lb makes it very hard for his lungs to support his body. That is why he is in need of antibiotic treatment and other life sustaining medicine.

Ilya says he does not want to give up and he is a fighter. He sees how much his mom and other people love him and care for him. 

Ilya has a dream. He wants to be a producer and make a movie about wonderful people who help him live. 

Victoria at work.

Victoria, Ilya's Mom became a single Mom after her husband has died. She often works overtime to make the ends meet and support Ilya's medical expenses, but it is not enough.

Donating to a Ukrainian orphanage

In May we have visited the Orphanage for children from 5 years old and up. We were able to go to the market and get the stuff super cheap. We got them blocks, jump ropes, board games, puzzles and fun tents for the little guys.

Feeding the hungry

Our last but not least thing that we are planning to do in Ukraine this year is helping at the Retirement home for the veterans of work here in Kharkov. These elderly individuals don't have any family who can take care of them that is how they get to this retirement home. The retirement home is entirely government supported. And those of us who live or lived in Ukraine know what that means. We don't have to go into details, they need help not only with bedding, higene items ect.but most importantly they need FOOD. So this time instead of getting those supplies we will be helping with food.

For now we only have $140 dollars to spent, which means we can get things like oranges, crackers and some candy for $350, obveously not enough to help with the full dinner, but now we know... if people need food that is a basic need.

Their smiles made it all worth it

I don't know how posting from Ukraine will work, but I hope that it will.

I just wanted to update everyone on our trip to Ukraine and that we made it. 

Yesterday we got a chance to go and visit the children's spychiatric hospital here in Kharkov. We had deliveded the school supplies for the kids that were there and left the rest for the classrooms.  It was such a blessing to see those kids and how their faces lit up when they found out that we brought them something. 

We had to get more supplies for additional kits, thank you to all of you who donated!

These kids were so sweet! We were greeted with smiles and huggs.

UNFORTUNATELY we were not allowed to take pictures of the rooms in the hospital. I took a couple of pictures in their classroom, which was pretty nicely decorated with kids drawinds and crafts. But the rooms that these kids live in for one month at a time look like they need some color and liveliness.

There a lot of strikt rools in this place like no toys allowed in their sleeping area. I was thinking no soft bear to cuddle? That was kinda sad when you are a kid.

Teachers mentioned that they are in need of shcool supplies like watercolor paper, drawing paper and art and school supplies are always needed. I was very surprised that they were allowed to draw and do art. They also have schol there at the hospital during the school year.

What we are raising funds for...

Now that we have the  Donate Now button with Pay Pal I wanted to make sure I posted what we are raising funds for:

1. We need to get more school supplies for the orphans and kids that stay in the psychiatric hospital in Kharkov for an extended number of days(kids in Ukraine can stay in the hospitals ran by the government for months). We thought it would be nice to brighten up their day with some things that they can write and draw on, some goody bags and a soft toy. We are also hoping to get them some multivitamins, since the only food they eat there in the winter and spring are grains and no vitamins.

2. The Rest Home home or Dom Prestarelih in Kharkov is in need of bedding supplies like blankets, sheets, and pillows. They are also in need of Wheel Chairs.

These are the needs that we know of for the time being.
